Anne de Vries will give a lecture at MFRI on October 18. The lecture will be held in the 1st floor auditorium at Skúlagata 4, and will commence at 12:30 pm.
Anne de Vries has a background in Water Management from the University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen, the Netherlands and is currently doing a masters at the University Centre of the Westfjords in Ísafjörður on Coastal and Marine Management. Her research looks into the plastic occurrence in cod (Gadus morhua) and saithe (Pollachius virens) from the west coast of Iceland. In the presentation the emphasis is on the application of an alkaline treatment with KOH to dissolve fish guts in plastics research as the initial visual analysis is completed, but further chemical analysis by n-IR is still ongoing. Anne will give points from her experience that need to be considered when applying this method, and general observations she made throughout the process.
