Welcome 26th cohort of fellows!
The Marine and Freshwater Research Institute´s headquarters has received powerful reinforcements from around the world. Fellows have recently arrived to participate in this year’s six-month training within GRÓ – Fisheries Training Programme. The programme is funded by the Government of Iceland and hosted within the Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Research Institute.
The Fisheries Training Programme offers applied postgraduate training for fisheries professionals, targeted short courses in partner countries and administers postgraduate scholarships to former fellows.
This winter´s cohort includes 23 fellows from 14 countries -- in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and the Pacific 12 women and 11 men.
Three lines of specialisation have 6 fellows each, the Aquatic Resource Assessment and Monitoring line, the Sustainable Aquaculture line and the Quality Management line. The Fisheries Policy and Management line, which was the largest line last year, has 5 fellows this time.
During the first 7 weeks of the training all the fellows live together in the GRÓ-house located in the country’s capital, Reykjavik. Every morning they will then take public bus to Fornubudir in Hafnarfjordur, MFRI´s headquarters where training takes place.
